Great Smoky Mountains National Park 
​Great Smoky Mountains National Park spans along the Tennessee and North Carolina, with the border running through the center of the 522,427-acre tract. ​Great Smoky Mountains is the most visited National park in America. The mountains have a long history of human settlers from the prehistoric Paleo Indians to 19th-century European settlers. Known as the "Salamander Capital of The World," the park hosts the most diverse populationof salamanders in the worldcontaining thirty different species. ​

The Tennessee River is approximately 652 miles long and is the largest tributary of the Ohio River. A tributary is a stream or river that flows into a larger stream, parent river, or lake. The river begins in Knoxville with the confluence of the Holston and French Broad rivers. In addition, the nine major dams on the main course of the Tennessee River create a series of lakes that form one long navigation channel from Knoxville, Tennessee, to Paducah, Kentucky. The channel has a length of 1,045 kilometers (650 miles) and an average depth of about 2.7 meters  (9 feet).
